Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, argues that Africa must seek, in a “bolder” way, solutions for the future, and “not wait for international solidarity”. These statements were made during the inaugural online communication of the Regional Conference on Youth, Peace and Development, promoted by the Youth Coalition of Portuguese Speaking Countries, CJP, in Guinea-Bissau. JMN also warned about issues such as the phenomenon of “desperate” migrations across the Atlantic and climate change.

The Cape Verdean Head of State spoke on the topic “Youth of the PALOP in the face of community, regional and global challenges” and discussed important current issues, such as political and institutional instabilities arising from wars and coups d’état in Africa.

JMN also referred to the conflicts in the East and their risks that are causing profound changes in the world order, the inequalities between rich, industrialized and developed countries in the North and the poor countries, suppliers of raw materials and underdeveloped in the South, and the rise of South, with new emerging countries, the BRICS.

JMN wants more opportunities for African youth on the continent itself

José Maria Neves also warned about the phenomenon of desperate migrations across the Atlantic and conflict zones in the east, resulting in “humanitarian problems that shame the world” and climate change, with its increasingly extreme manifestations.

The Cape Verdean PR argued that “Africa must seek, in a more daring way, solutions for the future, and not wait for international solidarity, knowing that development is not a gift, but an achievement” .

For the government official, it is important to monitor the development of these problems and he stressed that Africa’s greatest asset is its youth and it is on them that the continent must rely to “turn the tide and achieve the transformation that is urgently needed”.

To begin this “turnaround”, according to José Maria Neves, we must invest “strongly in the education and training of young people, in science and innovation”.

“Young people must have causes and purposes, be patriots and seek knowledge to dream and build a new Africa”, challenged the President of the Republic who wants more opportunities for African youth on the continent itself.
