Africa-Press – Cape verde. Vice-president MpD Luís Filipe Tavares stated today that Africa must free itself from its liberators so that there can be peace and development, adding that “without democracy, Africa will not advance”.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke as a speaker at the conference “Political instability in the Sahel – cases of Somalia, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali”, held in the city of Praia, within the framework of the meeting of the Democratic International of Central Africa (IDC- Africa), under the president of the Movement for Democracy (MpD).
The former Cape Verdean ruler said that Africa is facing a number of problems, with particular emphasis on the functioning of democracy, weak governance and institutions and the non-functioning of the rule of law.
“Africa needs new strong leaders, it has to definitively resolve the problem with its history and move forward. It’s not going to be easy, but I believe that diplomacy is the only way to resolve conflicts in Africa and, above all, we all have to work together, African leaders, to promote the rule of law, to make democracy work, because without democracy Africa will not move forward,” he added.
