Africa-Press – Cape verde. The deputy of the Independent and Christian Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID), António Monteiro, said this Thursday, that despite the slight increase in the Municipal Financing Fund to 362 thousand contos, in the 2024 State Budget, São Vicente loses out.

According to the deputy, elected by the São Vicente circle, despite having increased the budget from 233 thousand contos to 362 thousand contos, the island loses out when compared with other municipalities.

“It is a situation that is not new. This has been going on for a long time, even when budgets were approved, we always talked about this matter, but absolutely nothing was ever done,” he declared.

When asked by Inforpress, if São Vicente had two municipalities the island would have a better share, as many argue, António Monteiro stated that if the island had two municipalities “the value would be far higher”, but argued that “we cannot be multiplying municipalities because it will not bring any benefit to the country”.

“A single municipality satisfies São Vicente, but it could be possible to have several parish councils and the presidents of councils in conjunction with other political leaders to carry out the work that must be done in favor of citizens”, he explained, adding that “multiplying municipalities It has costs and entails more taxes that will come out of Cape Verdeans’ pockets.”
