Association of Municipalities of Santiago warns of greater investment in production to guarantee food security

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Association of Municipalities of Santiago (AMS) warned today that the country needs to invest more in production to reduce the volume of imported food products, ensure greater food and nutritional security, in addition to improving the diet feed.

The president of AMS, Carlos Silva, expressed this concern to Inforpress on the sidelines of the presentation of the ” Framework of Country Programme (CPP)” for the period 2023-2027, in which the FAO will make 38 million dollars available to the country so that more people are empowered and have better access to safe, inclusive and equitable nutrition.

Carlos Silva, for whom the programme “is very well prepared, the economic part very well worked out, as well as the social part”, said he hoped the CPP would make a major contribution to the social, economic and environmental development of the country, the municipalities and the island of Santiago in particular, given its agricultural potential and capacity to produce.

“We need to invest more in production, so I believe that FAO, as always, has been one of the best partners in the field of agriculture and food. We are satisfied and want it to be implemented successfully and for us to make the most of it for the good of our people.”
