The national basketball team is already in Japan, where, next Saturday, the 26th, it will make its absolute debut in the world of the modality against Georgia after several stages in Europe and the United States. The Hammerhead Sharks are in group F with Slovenia, Georgia and Venezuela.
The team’s delegation is in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, and will then travel to Okinawa, the city that will be Cape Verde’s “headquarters” in this competition.
The national coach, Emanuel Trovoada, told Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV) that the internship in the United States of America went “well” and that it served to improve the players’ physical indices and tactical condition.
“Despite the fatigue, due to the two days of travel, now we are going to make a quick recovery of the players so that we can focus on the competition that is at the door”, pointed out Emanuel Trovoada, informing that the selection arrives at this World Cup as the smallest nation to participate in a final stage and with Edy Tavares, player of Real Madrid, Spain, as its main star.
As part of its preparation for the Asian World Cup, the Cape Verde national team participated in the Trentino Basket Cup, in Italy, having lost to China (66-86) and Turkey (63-90), after an internship in Spain .
Cape Verde faces Georgia in the debut
The World Basketball Championship will take place in Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia from August 25th to September 10th and Cape Verde shares Group F with the national teams of Slovenia, Georgia and Venezuela.
Cape Verde will make its absolute debut in the FIBA World Cup on August 26th, against Georgia, in a match to be played at the Okinawa Arena, in Japan.
According to the schedule, Cape Verde returns to compete, on the 28th of the same month, this time against its South American counterpart in Venezuela, counting for the second round, and ends its participation in the group stage, on 30, against the Europeans of Slovenia.
