Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean international basketball players, Edy Tavares and Ivan Almeida were in the spotlight last weekend as they were decisive in the matches of their teams, Real Madrid of Spain and Benfica of Portugal, respectively.
Edy Tavares was considered the Most Valuable Player, MVP, of the Supercopa Endesa, in which Madrid beat their eternal rival, Barcelona, by 89-83. The Cape Verdean international managed 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.
With this achievement, Edy Tavares adds his fifth Supercup at the service of Real Madrid, the ninth trophy of the Madrid team.
Ivan Almeida makes a “game” for Benfica
In turn, the Portuguese press describes that the winger, Cape Verdean international, Ivan Almeida, was simply “on fire” in the third qualifying match for the group stage of the Basketball Champions League of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). in which Benfica de Portugal beat the German team, Bamberg, by 87-73.
In that match, Ivan Almeida scored 39 points against the German team – in a total of nine triples in 14 attempts -, adding 8 rebounds, thus contributing to Benfica being listed as the first Portuguese team to reach the group stage of the FIBA Basketball Champions League.
The FIBA Champions League is the third European club competition, the first in FIBA Europe, behind the Euroleague and EuroCup and ahead of the FIBA Europe Cup.
Benfica is now included in Group F, along with the Spaniards of Baxi Manresa, the Latvians of VEF Riga and the French of CSP Limoges. For the Eagles, the group stage starts on the 25th of October.
