Africa-Press – Cape verde. The executive secretary of the Combating AIDS Coordination Committee (CCS-SIDA), Celina Ferreira, confirmed this Friday that the City of Praia currently has 2,867 people undergoing antiretroviral treatment for HIV infection.

The executive secretary of CCS-SIDA spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the official delivery of the Gene-Expert device to the Praia Health Department, a device that aims to detect the HIV viral load and diagnose Tuberculosis.

However, according to Celina Ferreira, the rate of undetectable viral load in people is 76 percent (%), data that, according to the same source, translates into a “huge gain”, given that the goal is to reach 95%.

“By achieving this goal, they are automatically achieving the goal of eliminating HIV, which is one of the Sustainable Development Objectives”, maintained this official, also adding that the Praia Health Department has 60% of people living with HIV and 80% of people living with tuberculosis.

As for the device, he explained that the equipment was acquired through the global fund, grouped purchases that facilitate the cost and benefit that occurred within the scope of the Feve Project (border and vulnerability), coordinated by MORABI, financed by Luxembourg Cooperation and the implementation of the Plan Annual Working Paper (PTA) 2022 of the Joint Office of UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, and in the context of the deconcentration of HIV-AIDS and Tuberculosis services in Cape Verde.

“We decided to reinforce the deconcentration of HIV services so that people adhere to treatment and guarantee the effectiveness of treatment and above all the management of HIV and Tuberculosis co-infection”, he said.

The Feve project, said Celina Ferreira, acts mainly on vulnerable populations that present some barriers in accessing health services, in accessing adequate information and also in controlling a chronic disease.
