Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, proceeded this Sunday to hand over keys of the rehabilitated Nossa Senhora da Conceição Chapel, in Povoação Velha, to the Catholic Church, an investment of about 4.8 million escudos.
The Nossa Senhora da Conceição Chapel, a historic building built around 1822 in honor of the Mother of God, popularly known as Grejóna, received requalification works under the Program for Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility (PRRA) carried out by the Government of Cabo Verde, budgeted at about 4.8 million escudos.
“It is an honor on this symbolic day for the Boa Vista Island. We have not only rehabilitated the historical heritage and religious building, we have rehabilitated the soul of the place, the site and the Village,” said Abraão Vicente, during the public ceremony.
The Minister referred to the impact he felt when he noticed the degradation of the building caused by Hurricane Fred in 2015 and popular discontent, as well as the will for its construction.
