Boa Vista: Statue in honor of the first President of Cape Verde ready and waiting to decide where to stay

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Boa Vista City Council (CMBV) announced today that the statue in honor of Aristides Pereira is now ready, as part of the municipality’s budget effort, which is valued at around three thousand contos.

The information was provided today by a source from the city council, adding that there is another project, estimated at 22 thousand contos, which consists of the construction, in the Fundo das Figueiras square, of the Aristides Maria Pereira Silva museum.

Nádia Santos, councilor for Culture at the Boa Vista City Council, provided this information today after the march ceremony and laying of a wreath at the grave of the first President of Cape Verde, the first event held by the local authority to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Aristides Pereira.

“The City Council already has a statue of Aristides Pereira Silva ready, a project materialized in 3000 contos”, he informed, adding that, although it has not yet been decided where the statue will be placed, Avenida Aristides Pereira, located in the city of Sal Rei, as one of the likely locations where the work could be located.

According to the councilor, the city council also prepared another project, budgeted at 22 thousand contos, for the construction of the Aristides Pereira Museum, in the Fundo das Figueiras square, the place where the first President of the Republic of Cape Verde was born.

“Right now, we are working hard to see if we can materialize this project, which is a bit ambitious, with a high value. We are looking for partners and financing to see the possibility of building it to mark the presence of Aristides Pereira here in his area”, he said, referring to this project as “a way of immortalizing him in his native area, taking his history and memory to Fundo das Figueiras, in addition to constituting a cultural and tourist product on the island and for the country”.

In addition to the avenue in the city of Sal-Rei, there is a bust on the island of Boa Vista at the International Airport, in Rabil, which was renamed on November 19, 2011 to Aristides Pereira International Airport.

Born in Boa Vista on November 17, 1923, Aristides Pereira was the first President of the Republic of independent Cape Verde, a position he held until the democratic elections of 1991, the first free elections in the country.
