Brava: "Embarrassment with transferring patients from the island is no longer a problem" - says Health Delegate

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Speaking to Inforpress, Hélder Pires assured that the vessel is “always ready” for any emergency, including patient transfers.

According to the same source, when he took office as Health Delegate in the municipality, the main concern was the lack of a “fixed” means of transport to transfer patients, however he assured that this problem has now been resolved.

“We have to take into account that the CV Interilhas ships were not permanently on Brava Island, which made the rescue process quite difficult, but with the placement of the Coast Guard ship everything became easier”, he informed, stating that the island “ is safe” when it comes to transporting patients.

Hélder Pires also informed that if there is any emergency and it is necessary to transport patients to another island “just call the Coast Guard” and “in less than half an hour” the ship will be ready to leave, and, depending on the state of the sea , the trip to Fogo island varies between 30 and 40 minutes.

“It is transport carried out in a safe manner, because the Coast Guard has a qualified and experienced person to accompany any patient”, assured Hélder Pires.

Along the same lines, the same source highlighted that there are patient transfers that are not advisable to carry out by sea, because the sea has “a lot of turbulence”.

The Health delegate acknowledged that Brava does not have any other type of connection with other islands, but considered that it would be “very good” if there was a helicopter to transfer patients.
