Brava receives more than 255 thousand contos of investment in improving the electricity sector on the island

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Osvaldino Lopes, who is on a joint mission on the “island of flowers”, together with the director of UGAO, Arikson Santana, and the director of Energy Transport and Distribution at Electra Sul, Silvino Leal, spoke to Inforpress today that, in a In the near future, there will be no more problems in production, taking into account the work that is being prepared and carried out in this municipality.

“It was actually necessary to have new generators, rather than spending money again on repairing the existing ones and in this sense Electra, and+in partnership and close harmony with the municipality of Brava, in the person of the mayor, Francisco Tavares, and with the consent and institutional and financial collaboration from the Government of Cape Verde, we were able to implement our desire”, he highlighted.

According to the same source, Electra had already done work in advance that the eyes cannot see, highlighting that sometimes people only see the extent of the network and public lighting, but highlighted that they forget that in order to have public lighting, you have to have production and distribution.

“We have already invested in the general rehabilitation of transformation stations on this island, a project costing more than 14 thousand contos that has already been completed and sometimes people have no idea of the work we are doing”, he highlighted.

He also informed that they have implemented work to reinforce the power installed at the Favatal Power Station, and will install two more new generators of 810 kilovoltampere (KVA) each, taking into account that in total, together with the other machines, the island will have a power of around 3720 KVA, which he considered exceeds the municipality’s demand.

Hence, this person in charge also said that the aforementioned investment is budgeted at around 50 thousand contos, without taking into account the variables and extras, taking into account that this municipality does not have a machine for transporting and lifting a heavy load, so , they had to resort to this equipment on the island of Santiago, as the rental and transport cost exceeds seven thousand contos.

“Everything we are doing in terms of production at Brava is preparing for the future, taking into account that the construction of a water desalination plant is underway, which has a fairly large power demand. And if Electra is not prepared, there will be no conditions, because with the aforementioned investments, I guarantee that we will have all the possibilities”, he guaranteed.

He also admitted that the island’s medium voltage network is in series, that is, if there is a cut in the cable that goes to Nova Sintra, there will be no redundancy so that the municipality is effectively supplied via Furna, or vice versa.

Therefore, Osvaldino Lopes explained that it is in this sense that they are investing in a medium voltage ring closure project, in the towns of Favatal, Furna and Nova Sintra and another closure, Nova Sintra and Nossa Senhora do Monte, and for this project the value is estimated at 38 thousand contos.

“If there is a failure in one of the rings, the municipality will be supplied with another outlet, in addition to that we also have the photovoltaic plant which is a Government project, but we are the ones who will explore it and this plan will be inserted within the Brava electrical system, taking into account that this investment in renewable energy is budgeted at around 150 thousand contos”, he informed.

That executive administrator guaranteed that Electra is making these investments, but will also make some arrangements, to be able to provide more comfort and dignity to its employees in this municipality and also assured that there will be an inauguration and handover scheduled for the first week of the month of June.
