Brava reinforces electricity production capacity with two new generators

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares, considered today that the municipality will have a guarantee of “more than ten years” of electricity supply capacity, thanks to the two new generators financed by the Government through Electra.

Speaking to the media, Francisco Tavares reported that the equipment arrived on the island last week and one of the generators was financed by the Social Sustainability Fund for Tourism and the other was financed by Electra herself.

“This is the result of work that has been going on for a long time, and the municipality has been requesting this equipment for a long time, given the vulnerable situation. The existing generators on the island are old and from time to time one or another gets damaged, the rest are unable to supply the entire municipality,” he said.

As the mayor explained, this action is also a consequence of the fact that the island will have a desalination unit which, however, has its own photovoltaic plant, but according to him, if there is a need to produce more water at night, it would be necessary to connect the desalination plant to conventional energy

“The Government listened to the chamber’s request and managed to acquire two new generators and each of them has a greater capacity than all those that the local Electra has. Therefore, the project is to extend the network that will start from the Electra plant, going to a mooring point in the town of Furna, and thus we will have a circular supply of electricity, which at the moment the municipality does not have”, he explained.

Hence, he highlighted that if there is a need to cut power to the network in one direction, energy can be supplied in the other direction.

The mayor added that in addition to these investments, more investment is being made in courses and the municipality is “highly satisfied” with the positive response from the Government and that in this sense it is the island that will win.

In turn, António Carlos, who lives in Brava, welcomed the news, but highlighted that months ago the municipality experienced great difficulties with the lack of electricity.

“We have already learned that two new generators have arrived on the island and we, who are traders, are very happy with this news and hope that from now on we will not suffer from electricity problems”, he stressed.

António Carlos considered that these new generators will also help with water distribution, taking into account that the machine will reinforce water pumping, thus reducing the lack of this liquid.
