Africa-Press – Cape verde. The head of Telecommunications and Digital Economy, João da Luz Ramos, said on Wednesday, the date on which the International Telecommunications Day is celebrated, that Cabo Verde is making qualitative and quantitative leaps in this area.
In an interview with Inforpress, the official assured that the country is “well served” in terms of telecommunications, despite some complaints, noting that at the moment, Cabo Verde is in the top places on the African continent in terms of access to telecommunications and that in terms of penetration of the Internet access service stands at around 84 accesses per 100 inhabitants, double the African average and 20% of the world average.
He also advanced that according to the report by the Multisectoral Regulatory Agency for the Economy (ARME), in the fourth quarter of 2022, the mobile phone coverage rate was 103%. For João da Luz Ramos, since the opening of the telecommunications market Cabo Verdehas “progressed a lot” at this level, emphasizing that nowadays many Cape Verdeans have access to various online services without having to go anywhere, thanks to the implementation of new technologies in the country.
He recalled that all of this is due to the opening up of competition and competitive advantage in the sector, which allowed the freedom of choice of Cape Verdeans who before this time paid, for example, for a sim card large amounts, but that nowadays this is practically free.
