Africa-Press – Cape verde. The new governing bodies of the Cabo Verdean Alumni Association of the United States (ACA-USA), sworn in this Saturday, 13th, in the City of Praia, promise to work strategically to empower youth, aiming to create a bright future for everyone.

This conviction was expressed this Saturday by the president of (ACA-USA), Hernídia Tavares, during the inauguration ceremony, having stated that the association wants to share this “bath” of knowledge acquired in the various training courses carried out in the USA with others.

Taking on the leadership of this association is, for the new president, synonymous with embracing this service to others, through the mobilization of a set of opportunities so that the knowledge, experiences and wisdom acquired are placed at the service of communities, in a structured and organized to better harness the potential of this collective.

“Our vision is to create opportunities through educational and civic projects that inspire our young people to do and be more, becoming one of the most agile, respected and recognized associations in Cape Verde”, said Tavares.

The Minister of Communities, Jorge Santos, presiding over the ceremony, praised the importance of this association, given its umbilical connection with the USA, “one of the main countries in the world to believe that it was possible for Cape Verde to be an independent, autonomous country and that it could build its independence and become a country with medium development today”.

The USA, he pointed out, gave the country high-level cadres, national leaders, governors, businesspeople, teachers, professors who came out of the first contingent of 20 Cape Verdean students with scholarships, in 1977, in addition to highlighting the fact that the USA never closed its doors to Cape Verdean emigration.

The ceremony was witnessed by the US Ambassador to Cape Verde, Jeff Daigle, who described the event as a “historical milestone”, expressed his gratitude to the outgoing team for their service and collective efforts that helped change the course of ACA-USA, without fail to wish success to the newly appointed team.

The association, he said, facilitates continuous engagement, collaboration and exchange of ideas between former students and scholarship holders, with the aim of promoting interconnections and connections, highlighting that for an archipelago like Cape Verde, with more than 200 years of historical ties with the US, having a vibrant association is of “extreme importance” for bilateral relations.

Created in 2012, the Cabo Verdean Alumni Association of the United States integrates former Cape Verdean students from the USA, with the purpose, precisely, of contributing to the development of Cape Verde, acting in areas such as health, education, economy, environment, entrepreneurship and sport.
