Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cabo Verdean Physicians Association in the United States positively evaluates the first days of the medical mission in Cabo Verde, highlighting that cultural and scientific exchange aims to identify opportunities and future collaborations.

In a statement to the press, after a meeting with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, the president of the Association, Júlio Teixeira, said that these missions are an exchange, both cultural and scientific, that come to “value” the professionals in Cabo Verde, and it also serves to exchange experience.

“We were well received, from the social, cultural and psychological point of view, we feel the welcome environment for our project”, said the same source, who told that the team consists of 26 members, divided into four surgical teams, one ophthalmology, one “head and neck”, one of general surgery and another one of gynecology. There is also a team of medicine and mental health, which acts in the area of sexual violence against children.

“We brought equipment and materials, about 500 thousand dollars in equipment for the Praia Hospital and at the same time we brought friends and colleagues from there to cooperate and collaborate with Cabo Verde, for example we have a Harvard team of ophthalmologist in São Vicentet for cataract surgery, we also have American colleagues and Cabo Verdeans of second, third and fourth generation, in which some of the is for the first time in Cabo Verde,” he said.
