Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Praia (CMP), Francisco Carvalho, promised this Saturday, 16, to “beat a record” of rehabilitated housing in his municipality. In a first phase, 50 houses and 25 bathrooms will be rehabilitated.

Francisco Carvalho gave this guarantee on the sidelines of the delivery of four fully renovated houses in the capital.

“The houses chosen now to be rehabilitated are part of a huge list of houses in Praia that have roof problems and do not have bathrooms, one of the “most serious” problems in the municipality of Praia”, revealed the mayor of Praia, quoted by Inforpress.

The houses now delivered, according to the mayor, were chosen within the framework of a stage that is part of a municipal housing policy, based on different dimensions and one of them is the rehabilitation of houses.

“What we do today is just one phase of several others and we ask everyone to understand that we are evolving and we are doing it gradually”, urged Carvalho, who said that, at this moment, the municipality has already spent more than 35 million escudos in terms of rehabilitation of houses in the country’s capital.

The mayor of Praia said that in this first phase, 50 houses and 25 bathrooms will be rehabilitated and guaranteed that in the coming weeks other houses will be delivered in other districts of the capital.

“What we are doing today is in line with what we promised in the electoral campaign”, pointed out Carvalho for whom “in the last 12 years no houses have been rehabilitated in the municipality of Praia because it was not part of the planning and intervention” of the local authority.

The mayor also announced that he is negotiating with three international partners that will allow the construction of social housing in his municipality.
