Africa-Press – Cape verde. João Paulo Barbosa, a former student of the 11th course for National Police (PN) agents, was excluded from the training after suffering an injury during physical preparation. The PN alleges physical disability, a version contested by the young man, who will now take the case to court.
According to João Paulo Araújo’s statement, to A Nação, he came from the island of Fogo, to Praia, to participate in the 11th course for first-class agents of the National Police.
The training started on July 25, with João Paulo in position 76, among the 132 trainees.
“On the 26th we started activities with a physical load and on the third day I had an injury. I went to the hospital, was under observation for two days and then I was discharged”, he explains, indicating that, in the discharge report, the doctor, in addition to medication, recommended four weeks of physical rest.
resume interrupted
The student says that, after a few days of rest, he gradually resumed the exercises on August 5th, still in a “light” way so as not to aggravate the injury.
However, he says, on the same day he was informed by the director of the training center that he was excluded from the course due to physical incapacity, allegedly proven in a medical report.
“At this point I explained that I have no physical disability and that what happened was an injury, which can happen to any student. I asked for a copy of the report that indicated my alleged physical disability and this was not granted to me,” he explains.
Absence of medical report
Faced with this impasse, João Paulo Barbosa says he went to talk to the doctor who attended him, to have access to that report, but the doctor, as he said, informed him that he had not made a physical disability report, but a discharge report. .
“However, three or four days later the course administration sent me a medical report. My question is why they didn’t present the report from the beginning?”, he asks.
João Paulo Barbosa considers that his exclusion is illegal, as the report indicates that he should “maintain physical rest for a period of 4 weeks”, after which he “must resume his activities”.
suspicion of favoritism
The student also indicates that his expulsion is “at least suspicious”, since, as he said, the person who took his place “is the son of a PN commander, who, in turn, is the brother-in-law of the director of the Center”. of Training”.
“I already spoke to my lawyer, we made a letter of objection and sent it to the national director of the police, where we exposed all the details of the process. That was two weeks ago and we still don’t have an answer,” he said.
PN reaffirms physical disability
The Nation contacted the National Training Center of the National Police, which reaffirmed that the reason for the expulsion of the student was “physical incapacity”.
“João Paulo Lopes Barbosa was excluded from the 11th PN Agents Course, due to physical incapacity, duly proven, according to the medical report”, and “under article 38, nº 3, subparagraph a), of Ordinance nº. 26, of 22 June, which approves the regulation of the initial training course for 2nd Class agents of the National Police”, reads the response sent to this newspaper, after being questioned about the legality of the decision.
