According to Lusa, the decision updates the legal structure created in 2009, but which, “over time and due to government changes, became obsolete”, he explained.

The new commission aims to make the fight against diseases “more solid and effective”, being chaired by the Prime Minister, who will be able to delegate powers to the member of the Government responsible for the Health area.

“ In addition, it will be made up of members of the Government responsible for various areas, including Finance and Business Development and Digital Economy, Education, Health, Tourism and Transport, Sea and Agriculture and Environment ”, he detailed.

To regularly monitor and evaluate progress towards the elimination of malaria (also known as malaria) and subsequent certification of Cape Verde as a disease-free country, “the Observatory for Monitoring and Monitoring the Elimination of Malaria in Cape Verde was created”.

“ The nature, composition, powers and operating standards of this observatory will be regulated by its own diploma ”, added the Government.

Cape Verde has not recorded local transmission of malaria for five years and last year it had 21 imported cases.

Malaria, a curable disease, is transmitted between humans through the bite of an infected mosquito, and is one of the main causes of death globally, concludes this newspaper’s source.
