Cape Verde formalizes membership of the African Medicines Agency

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde formalized, on the 13th of July, its adhesion to the African Medicines Agency, becoming its 25th member. This action will allow protection against risks associated with the use of counterfeit substances and will facilitate the approval of products that respond to the health needs of the African population.

According to the Government, the African Medicines Agency will provide “sovereign” control and regulation of medical products.

“Enables Member States of the African Union to ensure efficient and effective protection of public health against the risks associated with the use of counterfeit substances, and will facilitate the expedited approval of products that respond to the health needs of the African population, especially in diseases that affect disproportionately to Africa” the same source points out.

The ratification instruments were delivered to the Commissioner for Social Affairs, Minata Samate Cessouma, by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miryan Vieira.
