Africa-Press – Cape verde. The governments of Cape Verde and Luxembourg signed this Thursday morning, 20th, a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Food Security to strengthen the National Program for School Canteens.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration (MNECIR), the aforementioned memorandum formalizes the intention of the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to grant the Government of Cape Verde a support in the amount of 3 million euros, for a period of two years, to reinforce the National Program of School Canteens.

Response to the call to overcome the crisis

“Given the multifaceted crisis scenario that Cape Verde is going through, Luxembourg thus responds to the international appeal launched following the Declaration of Economic and Social Emergency Situation of Cape Verde”, he said.

Through this support, it is expected that “all children from pre-school to secondary education can benefit from at least one hot, healthy and balanced meal a day”.

The agreement between both governments was signed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miryan Vieira and by the director general of Cooperation for Development and Humanitarian Action, Christophe Schiltz, the latter who has been in Cape Verde since 17 October. .
