The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today shared details of his recent visit to Yamoussoukro, where he met with the President of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe. During the meeting, Motsepe readily accepted the invitation to visit Cape Verde, reinforcing the hospitality offered to him by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
In a gesture of courtesy, José Maria Neves shared today on his social network that he presented the President of the African Football Confederation with a personalized Cape Verdean national team jersey, while receiving a World Cup ball in return. Motsepe expressed his congratulations for the high level of football presented by the “Blue Sharks” and praised the performance of the Cape Verdean Football Federation, led by Mário Semedo.
The head of state also shared the congratulatory messages he received from several African and international leaders, all praising the Cape Verdean team’s performance in the CAN. Cape Verde gained significant prestige in this competition, and José Maria Neves expressed his gratitude to the players, the technical team and the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
“I have already received several messages from African Heads of State and beyond, praising the performance of our National Team in this CAN. The country comes away with strong prestige from this competition. There is no way to repay how much these unbreakable players and technical team did for Cape Verde. Thank you Bubista, thank you Bala, thank you to all the players and technical team”, he thanked.
Neves highlighted the impressive representation of the Cape Verdean Diaspora in Côte D’Ivoire, led by the notable Consul of Cape Verde, Salam Rodrigues El Cheikh, and praised the community for the strength, enthusiasm and pride shown in support of the football team.
The Head of State extended his respects and congratulations to the Cape Verdean Football Federation for its exemplary performance and highlighted the message of unity conveyed by the team, highlighting that, together, the country can achieve more in all areas of national life.
“I salute and thank the Ivorian authorities for the welcome given to me in Côte D’Ivoire. They appreciated my presence in Côte D’Ivoire and received me very kindly. My respects and congratulations to the Cape Verdean Football Federation, particularly its President, Mário Semedo, for his performance and example. The participation of the national football team, which for the first time reached the semi-finals of an African National Championship, ended last Saturday with a 2-1 defeat on penalties against South Africa.
In the quarter-final game, held at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, the zero-zero score persisted throughout regulation time and extra time and the South Africans were much better on penalties.
Cape Verde only converted one (Bryan Teixeira) and failed four, by Bebé, Willy Semedo, Leroy Duarte and Patrick Andrade.
