Cape Verde Wants to Keep Alive the Hope of Qualifying for CAN2025

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The national football coach, Pedro Brito ‘Bubista’, expressed his hope today about qualifying for the CAN2025, before the final clashes against Egypt and Mauritania.

“We have confidence in our team, in our dream of continuing”, he said in a press conference in Praia, before the last two matches in Group B, the home match against Egypt on Friday and the trip to Mauritania on Tuesday.

For these two matches, the Blue Sharks had a last-minute absence, with winger Garry Rodrigues being dropped due to injury and being replaced by Tiago Correia ‘Bebé’, a player from Racing de Ferrol (Spain).

“Our principle is always the same: wanting to win the game, having confidence. We have seen results that are not positive, but I think everyone can see that the team did more than enough to win”, said Bubista.

In the last two qualifying matches, in October, Cape Verde suffered the same number of defeats against Botswana, both by 1-0, first at home and then away.

“We have to accept it and bounce back. This is what we want to do at home”, concluded the coach.

For his part, the captain of the Blue Sharks, Ryan Mendes, said that the goal is to “win”.

“We know it is not easy, we have had some difficulties, but we have had a week of quality training and that gives us motivation”, he said.

The national team will host the Egyptian national team on Friday, in a match that will be played at the National Stadium of Cabo Verde, in the capital Praia, at 3:00 pm local time.

On the sixth and final matchday, on Tuesday, the team will travel to Mauritania, to play at the Cheikha Ould Boidiya Stadium, in Nouakchott, at 2:00 pm Cape Verde time.

The Blue Sharks are in third place in Group C, with three points, while the qualifying places are Egypt, which leads, with 12 points, and Botswana, in second, with six points. Mauritania is in fourth and last place place, with three points, the same as Cape Verde.
