Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean artist Lizandro Cuxi won the award for Best Artist from Lusophone Africa at the Trace Awards 2023, in a ceremony that took place on Saturday night, 21st, in Kigali, Rwanda, and had three Cape Verdeans nominated in different categories.

In the category of Best Artist from Lusophone Africa, the Cape Verdean artist residing in Europe was nominated in a list with Plutónio (Mozambique), sister Soraia Ramos, nominated in three categories, Gerilson Insrael (Angola) and Pérola (Angola).

According to the list of nominees and winners, in this first edition, Rema, with the awards for Song of the Year “Calm Down” and Best Global African Artist, and Davido (Nigeria) who also won two awards, Best Male Artist and Best Collaboration with “Unavailable”, were the main winners.

Cape Verdean Soraia Ramos was also nominated for the Song of the Year award with “BKBN”, along with “People” by Libianca (Cameroon), “Suavemente” by Soolking (France), “Encre” by Emma’a (Gabon) , “Sugarcane” by Camidoh (Ghana), “Last Last” by Burna Boy (Nigeria), “Rush” by Ayra Starr (Nigeria), “Peru” by Fireboy DML (Nigeria) featuring Ed Sheeran (United Kingdom), “Seven ” by KO (South Africa), “Cough” by Kizz Daniel (Nigeria), “MORTEL 06” by Innoss’B (DRC) and the winner “Calm Down” by Rema (Nigeria).

Soraia Ramos, resident in Portugal, was also nominated for Best Female Artist, alongside Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Josey (Ivory Coast), Nadia Mukami (Kenya), Tiwa Savage (Nigeria) and winner Viviane Chidid (Senegal) .

From Cape Verde, Danni Gato was still nominated for Best DJ, who competed with DJ BDK (Ivory Coast), DJ Illans (France), DJ Spinall (Nigeria), Tio Waffles (Swaziland) and the winner Michael Brun ( Haiti).

In this first edition of the Trace Awards 2023, there were 22 categories and more than 150 artists nominated at the awards ceremony, Nigerian Burna Boy won Album of the Year with “Love Damini”.

The Trace Awards is a new award ceremony created by Trace, a global television and multimedia platform, with the aim of recognizing African and Afro-influenced musicians from Africa and the African diasporas.
