Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean parliament will debate the State Budget for 2024 today, calculated based on a conservative perspective of economic growth, the Government announced.

The war in Ukraine (and now between Israel and Hamas) and climate change are two of the factors of uncertainty that lead the document to point to economic growth of 4.7%, below the 5.7% forecast for this year .
The 2024 OE amounts to around 86 billion escudos (782 million euros), a 10% increase compared to this year’s OE.
During the presentation of the document, “stability” was one of the words repeated by the minister as the foundation of government policy, along with reforms focused on digital and environmentally sustainable transformation, to attract investment, and a third foundation that involves “protecting the most vulnerable.”
The ruling party has a majority in parliament.
The Movement for Democracy (MpD) has 38 deputies compared to 30 for the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) and four for the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID).
PAICV announced that it will propose salary increases for all workers and exemption from Single Income Tax up to 50 thousand escudos, considering the Government’s proposal unrealistic.
The Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID), the third parliamentary force, considered OE 2024 as a “fiction script”, but admitted to giving a “positive endorsement”, depending on whether some of its proposals are approved in the specialty.
