Africa-Press – Cape verde. In the month of July 2023, Cape Verde’s exports totaled 490 thousand contos, corresponding to an increase of 129 thousand contos (36.0%), compared to the same month, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said today.
INE data show that Europe continues to be Cape Verde’s main customer, absorbing around 95.4% of total Cape Verdean exports.
In terms of countries, Spain leads the ranking of Cape Verde’s main customers in the European economic zone, representing (64.8%) in July 2023. Italy occupies second place in the export structure (17.5%) .
Portugal remains in third place, recording, however, a decrease of 7.1 pp (19.5 to 12.5%), while the United States of America is in fourth position, with 3.1%.
The most exported
Among the products exported by Cape Verde in July 2023, prepared and preserved fish lead the ranking with 80.0%, followed by clothing in second place with 6.0%. Footwear occupies the third position with more than 5.5%, in relation to the registered in the same month of the previous year.
Imports
When it comes to imports, the European continent continues to be Cape Verde’s main supplier, with a weight of 71.5% of the total amount, followed by Asia/Oceania with 16.0%, America with 8.4%, from the Rest of the World with 2.2% and from Africa with 1.8%.
When it comes to analyzing imports by country, Portugal leads among Cape Verde’s suppliers, with a weight of 40.7% (10.6 pp lower than in the same month of the previous year), followed by Spain, Brazil and China , with respectively 8.5%, 6.7% and 6.6% of total imports.
The ten (10) main imported products reached 56.3% of the total amount of Cape Verde’s imports (compared to the 55.0% achieved by these same products in the same month). The most imported products were: reactors and boilers (8.5%), motor vehicles (7.5%), cement (4.2%), and milk and dairy products (3.7%).
Imports by Major Goods Categories
Regarding imports by major categories of goods, INE data show that in the month of July 2023, all categories of goods evolved positively in relation to the same month in 2022: capital goods represented 77.0%), consumer goods 21.0%, fuels 20.3% and intermediate goods 18.3%.
Consumer Goods continue to be the main economic category of goods imported by Cape Verde, with 45.9%, followed by Intermediate Goods (30.8%), Fuels (12.5%) and Capital Goods, with (10 .8%) of total imports, compared to July 2022.
