Africa-Press – Cape verde. The African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV) argued today that the celebrations of the 116th anniversary of Praia’s elevation to city status should be seen as a “jubilant” moment.

The statement was made at a press conference, by the vice-president of the Regional Political Commission of Santiago Sul, Paula Moeda, in a statement to mark the 166th anniversary of the elevation of the Village of Santa Maria da Vitória to the category of City, which is celebrated on the 29th Of april.

“After 166 years as a city, just as we look back on the history and evolution of this beautiful but challenging city of ours, we must also be able to look forward to Praia”, he pointed out.

Therefore, he regretted that the Government had “abandoned Praia”, leaving it to its fate, off the map of investments in infrastructures that are its responsibility.”

According to Paula Moeda, the central government is more interested in demagogic solutions, with basic help messages designed to “entice” voters, in competitions for municipal responsibilities.

“We have an ethical, moral, political and social duty to democratically deny inconsequential and electoral speeches and acts, an affront and permanent attack by the Government and the MpD on the Praia City Council”, he added.

Instead, he pointed out that “in this future that awaits Praia Maria” he expects from the central government more public security, energy and water, transport, decent employment, more vibrant social areas, entrepreneurship and an environment for investment.

“More external cooperation, promotion of development and fair and calm play towards the Municipal Council of Praia, led by Francisco Carvalho, who will continue to democratically represent the citizens residing in the Cape Verdean capital”, added Paula Moeda, praising the mandate of the mayor of Praia.

“It fulfilled and enshrined its commitment to the citizens of Praia and boosted the spirit of trust and hope in the future”, he noted.

To conclude, he guaranteed that PAICV will continue to work with “firm steps” towards achieving a “Beach for All”, with programs and projects capable of making the Cape Verdean capital more inclusive, more prosperous and fairer.
