Africa-Press – Cape verde. About 75 per cent (%) of the requalification works of the Rua da Banana houses have already been completed and the forecast is that all work will be completed during this month, the Ministry of Culture announced today.
The project, whose works started at the end of June, is part of the signing of the Term of Commitment the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC) and the City Council of Ribeira Grande de Santiago (Cidade Velha) and aims to reinforce the intervention in the preservation of Rua da Banana “in full balance” with the improvement of living conditions and well-being of residents.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, the rehabilitation will be complemented by the value of 200,000 escudos within the framework of the Resilient Tourism and Development of the Blue Economy project, financed by the Government through the World Bank, which foresees the comprehensive requalification of the São Pedro neighbourhood, from Rua da Banana and Carreira to the Convento de São Francisco area.
