City of Porto-Novense delivers more than a dozen bathrooms to vulnerable families

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Thirteen vulnerable families in Planalto Leste, in Santo Antão, will receive, on Sunday, 26, bathrooms built by Porto Novo City Council as part of the water and sanitation project on this island.

A note from the Porto-Novense city council explains that the families covered belong to the most vulnerable class registered in the single social register, who, from now on, will have a bathroom, thus contributing to the improvement of their quality of life.

These are families who live in Água das Caldeiras, Lombo de Figueiras and Ribeirão Fundo.

As part of the Santo Antão water and sanitation project, around 70 bathrooms for poor families have already been built in the municipality of Porto Novo, with another batch of 30 bathrooms expected to be built by the end of this year.

In March this year, the first batch of 44 bathrooms was delivered in the locations of Alto Mira, Jorge Luís, Ribeira dos Bodes, Ribeira Fria, Martiene, Curral das Vacas and Ponte Sul.

The second batch consisted of the construction of 25 new bathrooms, 13 in Planalto Leste and 12 in Ribeira das Patas and Lajedos.

Still in 2023, the third batch of bathrooms is expected to be built, covering new locations and rural families, informed the municipality.

By 2024, another 100 bathrooms will be built, totaling 200 bathrooms planned as part of the Santo Antão water and sanitation project.
