The Clube de Golfe e Ténis da Praia (The Golf and Tennis Club of Praia) opens today two duly illuminated tennis courts, equipped with their own changing rooms, in the premises of the Civil Engineering Laboratory in Tira-Chapéu, where it will operate temporarily its new premises.
With the inauguration of these new facilities, the club intends to return to the practice of this modality to the young people of the city of Praia who will be able to start playing tennis again and be able to participate in national and regional competitions, after more than 18 months of inactivity, due to the demolition of the old courts in Várzea.
“In fact, the legal proceedings brought by the Club against Praia City Council are underway at the Praia Court, following the demolition authorised by the council of the old courts in Várzea, since February 2022, and as a result of which the city of Praia was deprived of any tennis facilities,” the club’s press release stat
The leaders of the Clube de Golfe e Ténis da Praia claim that “the definitive facilities should have already been built under an exchange contract signed in 2018 between the city council and the Clube de Golfe e Ténis da Praia at the entrance of the Cidadela”, but which was not yet due to a unilateral decision by the City Council that did not fulfill the contract”.
