According to the joint declaration of the VI Cape Verde – Portugal Summit, released by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, and his Portuguese counterpart, António Costa, in the city of Praia, the financial package established in the program, for the next five years, will be invested in several areas.

According to the document, the new Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) intends to support the integration of different financial flows and cooperation modalities, in a logic of complementarity of the interventions and valences of the various partners.

This, he added, is in line with the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development of the Government of Cabo Verde and coupled with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The programme, the document also reads, is structured around six thematic axes, namely Education, Science, Sports and Culture, Health, Social Affairs and Labour, Justice, Security and Defense, Environment, Energy, Agriculture and the Sea, Public Finance, Economy, Digital and Infrastructure and Transversal Issues.

The two governments also signed partnership protocols for the implementation of the Technical-Police and Civil Protection Cooperation Program in 2022, for the implementation of the Network of School Libraries and the National Reading Plan of Cape Verde, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding in the Fields of Sport. and Youth.

Within the framework of the Agreement on Mobility in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Ulisses Correia e Silva and António Costa expressed their intention to move forward with the effective implementation of mobility between the two countries, namely through the respective additional partnership instrument.

“This agreement will contribute not only to cementing bonds of friendship, cooperation and proximity between the two states and peoples, but also to promoting sustainable development in the most varied fields, generating new opportunities, namely in the economy, education, science, technology, culture and sport”, he says. The VII Portugal – Cape Verde Summit is scheduled to take place in 2024, in Portugal.
