COVID-19: Economist points out African leaders inability to organize and prioritize the vaccine mobilization

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Economist Agnelo Sanches said today that African countries are to blame for the lack of vaccines against COVID-19, because their leaders have not had the capacity to organize and set priority in mobilizing more vaccines.

Agnelo Sanches, who is an economist and consultant for Economic and Financial Studies and Development Strategies, made these statements to Inforpress about the journey and balance of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the African Union (AU).

Data from the African Union’s Center for Disease Control (Africa CDC) show that only 11% of the African population is fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, a situation the economist says is due to the lack of organization and prioritization by African leaders.

“We have to recognize that we are to blame for our own situation, we on the African continent have not been able to produce any vaccine yet and many countries have not even bought a single vaccine because are waiting to receive and always receive all vaccines, which is not possible,” Agnelo Sanches said, pointing out that everyone has to participate.
