Africa-Press – Cape verde. São Tomé and Príncipe has hosted, since Monday the 21st, several meetings of focal points from different areas, in preparation for the XIV Conference of CPLP Heads of State and Government, scheduled for the 27th of August.
According to the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), São Tomé will assume the rotating presidency of the organization, replacing Angola, and the motto that it has already chosen for the mandate is “Youth is sustainability in the CPLP”.
Thus, according to the work agenda of the statutory meetings disclosed by the organization based in Lisbon, yesterday, August 21st, the XLVI Meeting of Cooperation Focal Points took place, and, on the 23rd and 24th, the IV Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Food and Nutrition Security of the CPLP (CONSAN-CPLP).
Also scheduled for the 24th is the 264th Ordinary Meeting of the Permanent Consultation Committee, which will be preceded, on the 23rd, by the Meeting of the Technical Preparation Group for the 264th Ordinary Meeting of the Permanent Consultation Committee.
The XXVIII Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled for the 25th and, on Sunday, the 27th, the XIV Conference of Heads of State and Government, which already has confirmation of Cape Verde’s participation.
Sao Tome and Principe will succeed Angola
São Tomé and Príncipe assumes the rotating presidency of the organization, for a period of two years (2023 to 2025).
In July, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the CPLP, the executive secretary of the Communities of Portuguese Speaking Countries, Zacarias da Costa, admitted in declarations to Inforpress, that the organization has challenges, but that it continues to move by the ambition to have increasingly relevant on the international scene.
The implementation of the Mobility Agreement and the consecration of the general objective of business economic cooperation are some “significant steps” already taken by the organisation, in addition to gains in terms of the environment, health and defence, according to Zacarias da Costa.
“The theme of the presidency of São Tomé and Príncipe means that youth is the future. We also have to work with our youth, so that they can feel close to the organization (…). It is up to our youth to look to the future in the right measure of their dreams and ideals”, considered Zacarias da Costa.
