Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Transport said that the Government is “perfectly” aware of the deficiencies that Cape Verde still faces in air transport, but stated that everything is being planned so that these problems are resolved in 2024.
With the serious crisis being experienced in the transport sector in Cape Verde, Carlos Santos, who is also Minister of Tourism, spoke in an interview with Inforpress, having highlighted the improvements recorded, after the disastrous effects of the pandemic in the air transport sector, and with the entry of the new operator into internal transport.
“ We are perfectly aware that we have improved in terms of response from 21 to 22, but we want to reach a goal that we have not yet been able to achieve. What I can say is that there is still a perfect awareness of some problems, of some deficiencies that we have in internal air transport ”, he said.
“And everything is being designed, it is being planned so that in 2024 we can solve these problems in terms of air transport. And we will make it. We managed to resolve the problem in 2021 and in 2023 we will continue to accelerate the pace of this process” , added the government official.
According to the same source, the minister recalled that the legislation on mandatory public service has already been published, in terms of internal passenger and cargo transport, which, in his perspective, represents an “ excellent step ”, as it is being created a legal framework, so that there is a set of obligations between the air operator operating in domestic transport and the State.
“ And this is the first time we are doing this. This legislation was published in March 2023. Very soon we will be publishing and approving the second package to complete this legal architecture. And this will be extraordinary, because it brings this set of obligations, and it brings predictability, punctuality in transport ”, he explained.
“ So, as you can see, there is a perfect idea of the problems that currently exist, and the way in which we will be able to solve them” , he highlighted.
As Inforpress recalls, at an international level it highlighted that TACV was also once again saved by the Government, remembering that the flag company currently has a business plan that is being implemented, being materialized alongside the opening of routes and traditional destinations and group of countries in which the Cape Verdean community resides.
“ We started in Portugal, we are already in France, in Italy, and the business plan also indicated that we should also move towards destinations on the American continent, namely Brazil and the United States of America. According to the calendar presented to me, we will be opening these two destinations very soon in 2024 ”, he said.
The objective, as noted by the minister, is to create a web of destinations and routes to provide financial and economic sustainability to the company.
“ And I believe that we are following this path in a safe, but also sustainable way, so that we can take the next steps, which is to expand the company, its capacity to install. I think that we will have good news very soon in 2024, based on what we saw, which has already happened and which was a commitment from the company and the Government ”, said the government official quoted by Inforpress.
