Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cyclist Nélio Cruz, from the São Vicente sports region, became two-time national champion by winning first place in the 113-kilometer road race of the V Cape Verde Championship of the sport. The competition took place this weekend in the city of Praia.
Nélio Cruz crossed the finish line first with a time of 3 hours 45 minutes and 5 seconds, followed by Eliezer Soares, and Ruben Júnior, who completed the podium.
On social media, Nélio Cruz thanked everyone who has contributed to his success in the sport, including being the youngest in the sport to become two-time champion.
The race started in Cidade Velha and ended at Estádio da Várzea, passing through Circular da Praia and the towns of Milho Branco, Barragem de Poilão, Variante São Domingos, and Praia International Airport, covering a distance of 113 kilometers.
New regulations
As the president of the Cape Verdean Cycling Federation, Marques Mendes, told Inforpress, the federation took advantage of the event to raise awareness among cyclists about the new regulations implemented, through the implementation of new methodologies, adopted by the International Cyclists’ Union (UCI), organization of which Cape Verde became an integral member.
The 26-kilometre national time trial, held on Saturday, in the city of Praia, and which marked the start of the V Cape Verde Cycling Championship, was won by Eliezer Soares, a cyclist from the Sal sports region.
