Dawah do Sal Association Unifies Muslim Places of Worship, Seeks Support for New Mosque

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The three Muslim places of worship on the island of Sal, two in Santa Maria and one in Espargos, are now united and under the coordination of the newly formed Islamic Association of Dawa do Sal (AID).

This branch of the Islamic Dawa Association of Cape Verde held a meeting on Tuesday on the island of Sal to officially present to local authorities and express the need for land for the construction of a mosque.

The presentation of AID Sal aimed to strengthen ties with some entities, namely the local authority, the National Police Command, the High Authority for Immigration and the Ministry of Tourism and Transport.

The AID representative in Sal, Mamadou Jalloh, who regretted the absence of some entities at the event, highlighted the mission of the association and its role in promoting religious understanding and practice.

“Dawa means calling people to learn or remember Islamic law. For non-Muslims, it is also a way to motivate them to learn about the religion and its importance,” said Mamadou Jalloh.

Imam Ahmad Faye, who has lived in Cape Verde since 2006, welcomed the “good integration” of the Muslim community in Sal, but made a “vehement appeal” for land to be made available for the construction of a mosque.

“The only thing we are asking for here on the island is a plot of land to build a mosque, where all Muslims can come together to pray, because where we are now is a small space,” explained the imam, highlighting the current difficulties faced by the community.
