Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Portuguese ambassador to Cape Verde, Paulo Lourenço, passed away today in Praia, victim of a massive heart attack, a source at the Portuguese embassy confirmed to Inforpress.

According to the same source, the 52-year-old diplomat was transported to Agostinho Neto Hospital but did not survive.

So far, information is scarce, but Inforpress promises to bring more details about the diplomat’s physical history.

Paulo Lourenço was in charge of the Embassy of Portugal in the City of Praia since February 28th of last year, when he handed over the letters of credentials to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, in the City of Mindelo.

He began his diplomatic duties in 1995 and served Portugal at the Embassies in Luanda (Angola), London (England), Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina) and Belgrade (Serbia) and was Consul General of his country in São Paulo, Brazil, between 2012 and 2018.

Before being appointed Ambassador to the City of Praia, by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the proposal of the then Government of António Costa, he led, in Portugal, the General Directorate of National Defense Policy, having assumed those functions in February 2020.
