Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde Volleyball Federation (FCV) lamented on Saturday, 20, the physical disappearance of professor Ildo do Rosário, also known as Vagui, victim of illness, which occurred at the Hospital Baptista de Sousa (HBS), in São Vicente.
In a note published on its official page on the social network Facebook, FCV expressed its “deep regret” at the death of Ildo do Rosário, “an emblematic figure who contributed significantly” to the development of volleyball in the archipelago.
“His dedication and passion for the sport left an indelible mark on the volleyball community and in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him”, the note reads.
According to FCV, Ildo do Rosário will be remembered not only as a volleyball promoter, but also as a mentor and friend, and his loss is felt by the entire volleyball family, who come together in this moment of mourning to pay tribute to his legacy .
FCV extended its condolences to Vagui’s family and reaffirmed its commitment to honoring his memory, continuing to promote Cape Verdean volleyball with the same spirit of excellence that Ildo do Rosário has always demonstrated.
The death of Ildo do Rosário was also felt by the Santo Antão Norte Regional Football Association, the Suzete Delgado Secondary School, the Rosariense club and several other institutions in which he left his mark and expressed, via statement, their regret.
Vagui’s funeral will take place today, leaving his residence at 2:15 pm, followed by a tribute at Escola Secundária Suzete Delgado, at 2:30 pm, and a religious ceremony at 3:00 pm at the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário .
Ildo Emanuel do Rosário, 65 years old, born in São Vicente, was born on January 5, 1959.
He studied at Liceu Ludgero Lima where he played several sports, having stood out in basketball in São Vicente and Cape Verde as one of the best players of his generation.
After finishing his secondary education, he went to São Nicolau, where he was a teacher and coach of the local Atlético.
Vagui completed his higher education in Cuba and, after his return, was placed in Santo Antão where he resided until his death and where he taught, at Escola Secundaria Suzete Delgado, the subjects of Physical Education and Artistic Education.
He was a sports activist who participated in the implementation and development of several sports in Santo Antão and was a football coach for the Rosariense and Beira-Mar clubs.
Ildo do Rosário leaves behind a wife and four daughters.
