Diaspora platform for investments in Praia starts with four projects

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Four projects were chosen to start the Cape Verdean Diaspora Investment Platform for the Development of the Municipality of Praia (PDD-Praia), presented this Saturday, in Lisbon, by the mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho.

To Inforpress, the mayor from Praia explained that these are projects related to agro-industrial production, the construction of a scientific museum, the training and education of young people, and the construction of a family park, and were selected in a first phase.

“The agro-industrial production project is linked to horticultural production, which is a huge gap that we have”, he explained, indicating that the creation of a family park has to do with the fact that “there is no space in the municipality of Praia where families can be to walk and have fun”.

Regarding the scientific museum, Francisco Carvalho explained that “science also needs a concrete space”, stressing that “all projects are economically profitable”.

The “Teaching Cheque”, of a social nature, was created to “help and support” students who are applied and dedicated, but who do not have the financial conditions to continue their studies, as a way of completing their academic path, as explained by the mayor, remembering that education has a “fundamental role in breaking the cycle of poverty and guaranteeing people’s social ascension”.

On the other hand, Francisco Carvalho praised that the PDD-Praia has another “important” dimension and that it is part of this package, which is to contribute to the creation of jobs, since Cape Verde’s “biggest challenge” is to fight poverty, and the first step is to have jobs for people.

The Cape Verdean Diaspora Investment Platform for the Development of the Municipality of Praia (PDD-Praia) is a public-private partnership participated by the Municipality of Praia and by DKC – Impact Investment.

In addition to Lisbon, the platform was presented on Friday, 15th, in Paris (France), on Sunday, it will be in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and on Monday, 18th, in Luxembourg. The presentation in other countries, in Europe and beyond, is being planned.
