Africa-Press – Cape verde. The artist Dino d’Santiago was highlighted by Forbes magazine as a Vozes da Lusofonia 2023 figure in the cultural domain for his performance as an activist for greater equality and cultural dialogue between Portuguese-speaking peoples.

Claudino de Jesus Pereira (Dino d’Santiago), according to Forbes magazine, stood out with his record works, with the album “Eva”, published in 2013, which marked a turning point in the artist’s career who jumped from Quarteira to Porto , from Porto to Lisbon and from Lisbon to the world.

“Between 2013 and 2023 I lived a time of uninterrupted dedication to work and the verses I composed became, in this decade, manifestos of love, but also of defense of racial equality, tolerance and empathy”, said the artist to the magazine Forbes.

In the interview with Forbes, the artist highlighted that “Eva”, which transported him to the world as Dino d’Santiago, is the name of his first niece in a testimony of love for Cape Verde, for his nephews and his two children.

Still in the magazine, in 2013 Eva was awarded by the jury of the Europe World Music Charts and, in 2014, she won the Cabo Verde Music Awards in two categories: Best Acoustic Album and Best Kola Sanjon with the song “Ka Bu Txora”.

In 2019, with Mundu Nôbu, the first edition of Play distinguished the artist in the categories of Best Solo Artist, Best Album and Review. At the Cabo Verde Music Awards, he won the category of Best International Rhythm, and won Man of the Year in the field of music from GQ Portugal.

The release of the EP Sotavento, highlights Forbes, led Dino d’Santiago to collaborate, very closely, in the production of an album by Madonna that featured the unprecedented participation of Batukadeiras from Cape Verde and resulted in a highlight in Rolling Stone and a tour to Europe and participation, in Portugal, in major festivals.

In 2020, the artist released “Kriola”, which received praise from international critics and which, in Portugal, was distinguished with three Play Awards for Best Album, Best Song and Best Male Artist.

Still under the effect of the pandemic, adds the magazine, Dino d’Santiago published “Badiu”, a work inspired by Batuku, a vibrant collection of stories from the Creole nation that had the Atlantic as an extension of its territory and music as the only refuge for the joy.

During the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations, Dino d’Santiago was recognized, by Most Influential People of African Descent, as one of the 100 most influential people of African descent in the world in 2021, having been considered in the same year by PowerList100 (Bantumen) as one of the most influential black personalities in Lusophony.

As a multiplying agent, the artist, with three other producers, founded the Plataforma Lisboa Criola and, in the 2022 and 2023 biennium, directed the curation of the Summer Gardens at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, distinguished by Time Out magazine in 2022 as the event of the year.

In 2022, the artist received the Golden Globes for Best Performer, the song Voei de Mim won the Best Theme Award at the XI edition of the Cape Verde Music Awards and two trophies at Play with Badiu as Best Male Artist and Critic.

In 2023, he was chosen by Expresso as one of the 50 figures who could come to define the future of Portugal, he received the Medal of Cultural Merit (2nd Degree) from the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries of Cape Verde and the first Afro-descendant to receive from the Portuguese Government the Medal of Cultural Merit.
