Elísio Silva Resigns as Health Delegate in São Vicente

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Dr. Elísio Silva, who served as head of the São Vicente Health Delegation for ten years, is leaving his post today and will be replaced by Dr. Eliana Soares, who was appointed by the Ministry of Health.

The information was given to Inforpress by Elísio Silva himself, who confirmed that he is leaving “on a high note,” after having recently received a 40-foot container with more than 50 hospital beds to be distributed to bedridden patients and social institutions.

According to the same source, the donation was obtained thanks to some friends and the Basque Railway Workers’ Solidarity Association without Borders, in Bilbao, which will now serve patients from Red Cross homes, the São Vicente City Hall, and other bedridden patients without adequate care.

He added that hospital clothing was also received and is being distributed to employees.

“This is another great achievement of the Health Delegation,” celebrated Elísio Silva, who recalled the situation that existed ten years ago.

According to the same source, he found an institution without vehicles and lacking several auxiliary diagnostic equipment, which he gradually remedied with the help of partners and various other gains.

Among other objectives achieved in this decade, he also pointed to the transformation of the Basic Health Units (UBS) into health posts, in partnership with the São Vicente City Hall.

“Currently, I can say that the organization of the health posts is practically different. The health department is very well recognized and evaluated by the population of São Vicente,” highlighted Elísio Silva.

However, the outgoing delegate lamented not having been able to convince the Ministry of Health to have the state’s affiliated pharmacies operating every day, including weekends and holidays.

Because, as he argued, a patient without the means, who waits an entire weekend to receive medication, can have their situation worsen during those days due to lack of treatment.

“But I hope the new Secretary of Health succeeds, because the population of São Vicente cannot wait for medication if we have it in the pharmacy,” he explained.

When questioned about his next assignments, Elísio Silva said that would depend on the Ministry of Health, but he assured that he is ready to work anywhere in Cape Verde.

His replacement, Dr. Eliana Soares, is also currently employed by the São Vicente Health Delegation.
