Elite Verde Association: Promoting Sustainability and Social Inclusion in Cape Verde

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Associação Elite Verde, an NGO created about six months ago and operating on the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente, is emerging as a driving force for sustainable change in Cape Verde, joining efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and promote social inclusion. According to Patrick Gomes, coordinator of the association, the challenges are many, “but the desire for change is greater”.

Founded with an audacious vision of carrying out social and environmental projects, Associação Elite Verde seeks to address the challenges that affect society both at an environmental and social level. The commitment, according to Patrick, is to encourage changes in habits, from childhood, through educational lectures on the importance of protecting the environment and the impact of environmental preservation “for the well-being of human beings”.

“Right now, our main focus is directed at the Mini All Star Basket Project (MAS-BASKET), which aims to promote Basketball in the Under (13) Category, a project of extreme importance, because it uses sport as a way to combat juvenile crime and helps to build dreams”, stresses the coordinator.

The association wants to generate changes at a social, economic and environmental level, in the communities where it operates and is, for now, seeking partnerships with institutions such as the Institute of Sports and Youth, City Councils, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, ICCA, Alou and others institutions to be able to follow up on the projects it has.

“This demonstrates our association’s commitment to achieving tangible results”, he guarantees.

Environmental education as a transforming tool

The Elite Verde Association’s activities have proven to be effective in raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainability.

“Citizens are becoming more aware of the importance of preserving natural resources, adopting conscious consumption and recycling. Environmental education emerges as a transforming tool, balancing economic development with the preservation of the environment”, he emphasizes.

Despite the financial challenges, Patrick says that the association continues “on the way” to want change and invites Cape Verdean society to support its mission and, perhaps, become a member of the NGO.

According to the coordinator, the Elite Verde Association wants to expand its geographic operations and “is currently identifying opportunities in communities and implementing sustainable ceiling initiatives”.

As the Elite Verde Association expands its influence, the hope is, according to Patrick Gomes, that its positive impact will continue to spread, creating a more resilient and environmentally conscious Cape Verde.
