Africa-Press – Cape verde. The state-of-the-art fiber optic cable, which opens the doors to the entry of 5G in the country, goes into operation today. According to CVTelecom, it will respond to the traffic demand between Europe and Latin America, with the possibility of including ECOWAS traffic.
Cape Verde’s entry into the EllaLink project represents an investment of US$30 million and funding was mobilized by CVTelecom from the European Investment Bank.
João Domingos Correia, chairman of the board of directors of CVTelecom, quoted by RCV, advanced that the same will allow Cape Verde to achieve two objectives.
“First, is to secure the communication system in Cape Verde, because we were dependent on a single cable, the WACS cable. Second, take advantage of the potential of the EllaLink cable to start doing digital business in Cape Verde”.

It is recalled that this cable consists of four fiber pairs, each with a capacity of 12 terabytes, and interconnects Sines in Portugal, with Latin America, passing, in this first phase, through Funchal, on the island of Madeira and Praia do Portinho. , in Santiago.
After the first phase, the project will also cover other countries in our sub-region, such as Mauritania, Morocco (Casablanca), Canary Islands (Tenerife) and two more points in Brazil and French Guiana (South America).
The cable will officially go into operation today, in a ceremony presided over by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, which takes place in the afternoon, in one of the hotels in the capital.
