Enapor Reactivates Ship Two of Cold Platform

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The public port company of Cape Verde (Enapor) announced today that it has reactivated ship two of the fish cold storage platform on the island of São Vicente, resuming storage services for refrigerated and frozen products.

“One of the chambers in ship two received its first shipment last week, clearly marking the start of operations of this infrastructure and demonstrating its ability to meet the needs of the sector,” the company said in a statement.

The unit has three fully operational refrigeration and freezing chambers, with the capacity to store approximately 400 tons of fruits, dairy products, vegetables, meats, and other frozen goods.

“The reactivation of ship two represents an important step in strengthening the port and logistics capacity of Porto Grande, in Mindelo, providing better conditions for economic operators interested in this service and ensuring greater efficiency and quality in the handling of goods,” it added.

In June, Enapor announced the launch of an international tender for the concession of the cold storage platform, which closed a year ago following the departure of the Spanish company Atunlo, which left 210 workers on layoffs.

The unit opened in 2015, with 51% of the capital owned by Atunlo, 33% by Frescomar (Ubago), and 16% by Frigrove – all Spanish companies.

Canned and frozen fish accounts for more than two-thirds of Cape Verde’s merchandise exports to the European Union (EU), with Spain being the main buyer.
