Africa-Press – Cape verde. More than 90,000 students in national schools receive meals through the School Food and Health Program, implemented by the Cape Verdean Foundation for School Social Action (FICASE).

According to the Ministry of Education, the program benefits a total of 90,019 students: 14,444 in preschool, 71,295 in compulsory primary education, and 4,280 in secondary education.

FICASE also develops other initiatives that complement its support for education in Cape Verde. In higher education, approximately 3,560 students receive scholarships and study grants.

In the private sector, the Ministry of Education states, the foundation provides tuition payments for 203 secondary school students, including young people in vulnerable situations, such as domestic workers, former inmates, and former drug addicts.

The School Transportation program ensures that approximately 8,000 primary and secondary school students have access to schools, particularly in areas affected by the restructuring of the education system.

Furthermore, 278 students receive support for tuition fees in student residences, allowing them to study away from their home communities.

The Ministry of Education also reports that FICASE also coordinates the sponsorship of 204 students, providing additional support for their educational journey.

To ensure that all students have the necessary materials, 36,867 students receive school kits consisting of backpacks, notebooks, textbooks, and lab coats. The foundation also provides 47 textbook titles at an average price of 250 escudos, making teaching materials more affordable.
