Africa-Press – Cape verde. The third edition of the Cheese Festival will open with a training and training of women in terms of processing products derived from milk and goat cheese.
The action, entitled “Women in the transformation of dairy products and goat cheese”, aims to enable the women of Monte Grande to boost the local socioeconomic development and will be the first activity of the third edition of the Monte Grande Cheese Festival that takes place today to Saturday, 20.
The training action of a total of 25 women is given by a food engineer and a specialist in strategic marketing management, and has the support of Portuguese cooperation, according to the president of the Association “Ka Djidja” (Casa Djidja, in Portuguese), Pedro Matos.
Alongside this training action and within the framework of the 3rd edition of the Cheese Festival is foreseen another training action in semi-intensive production of ruminants, intended for breeders and taught by the master in Veterinary Medicine Janice Duarte Silva.
The third edition also highlights the local development forum on climate change and food security in the rural world and “Listen to dialogue with local leaders and decision makers” and the Cheese Route, in partnership with local associations and tour operators.
The objective event provides tourists and other interested parties with a “unique experience” with the creators and producers of cheese.
The main objective of the Cheese Route is to socialize visitors about the process of manufacturing artisanal cheese, stimulate rural and gastronomic tourism and know the traditions around the life of the countryside.
For this edition, the organization chose the locality of Cabeça Fundão to hold the Cheese Route, given the “strong tradition” in the field of livestock, with emphasis on goat farming and is expected to visit the areas of plants endemic and corrals, as well as a session of conversations on environmental education and cheese tasting.
The Ka Djidja Association, which, in partnership with the local associations of Monte Grande organizes the Cheese Festival, wants to implement some projects aimed at valuing the cheese of the island of Fogo.
Among the projects in portfolio the president of the association pointed to the implementation of individual cheese/family cheese for small cheese producer and directed only for production and storage of the product with respect to the standards and specificities of the sector and with involvement of local associations.
The association also intends to work the brand of origin of Fogo cheese so that it is recognized as an intangible gastronomic heritage of Cape Verde.
