First Lady Delivers Computers to 11 Schools in Praia

Africa-Press – Cape verde. First Lady and President of the Dret.u Foundation, Débora Katisa Carvalho, delivered 11 MacBook Pro 2020 “Core i5” notebooks to high schools in Praia this Friday to reinforce digital literacy and promote the technological inclusion of students.

This donation is part of a partnership between the Dret.u Foundation and the Portuguese association Nuvem Vitória.

The computers are destined for 11 secondary schools in Praia that have functioning computer and technology labs, also aiming to improve the learning conditions of the students.

In an interview with the press, the First Lady considered that the initiative will have a direct impact on the lives of the students.

“With coverage for 11 schools, we will see this connection and also what it can positively impact in the lives of the students. Investing in education is investing in transformation, and investing in education is about that: investing in people, investing in the transformation of a better Cape Verdean society,” she said.

Débora Katisa also recalled that, during a previous visit with the Benfica Foundation to schools in Praia, the need to reinforce computer labs was identified.

“It is in this combination of those who need and those who are willing to donate, in this spirit of Christmas solidarity that is approaching, that we are here to make this delivery,” she said.

She added that the Dret.u Foundation has been continuously working on identifying international partners, clarifying that results are not always immediate.

“In the case of Nuvem Vitória, we initiated the first contacts two years ago,” she explained.

In turn, the director of the Achada Grande Frente Secondary School, Sandra Querido, representing the schools, considered that the gesture represents much more than the simple delivery of a computer.

“This gesture signifies a commitment from the First Lady to education. It is a sign that we have a First Lady committed to this cause, which is very gratifying and also gives more motivation to our work,” she said.

According to the official, the delivery will have a positive impact on the school’s digital literacy, emphasizing that, in the age of technology, it is always “important” to have more computer equipment.

She added that, more than ever, it is necessary to ensure that all students in Praia schools have the same opportunities as students in other parts of the world.
