Africa-Press – Cape verde. Débora Katisa Carvalho, First Lady of Cape Verde, travels to India, to participate in the 10th Edition of the Africa Asia Luminary, by the Merck Foundation 2023, which takes place from the 18th to the 19th of this month, in Mumbai.

As stated in a press release, the First Lady of Cape Verde was invited by Rasha Kelej, President of the Merck Foundation, to participate as Ambassador of the “More than a Mother” Campaign, which according to them, is a commitment of that foundation in supporting women facing issues related to infertility, gender equality and reproductive health.

This event, organized by the Merck Foundation, celebrates the foundation’s 6th anniversary and marks the 11th anniversary of development programs in Africa, Asia and underserved communities.

“At this prominent event, it will be an opportunity for Débora Katisa Carvalho to express her delight in joining the ‘Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative’ (MFFLI) and highlight the importance of collaborating with First Ladies across the African continent to achieve common objectives of strengthening communities and promoting gender equality ”, highlights the source.

It should be noted that the First Lady of Cape Verde will be accompanied, on this mission, by a delegation, which includes Evandro Monteiro, Deputy Secretary of State to the Minister of Health, and Valéria Semedo and Carla Barbosa, two doctors who are members of the Order of Doctors of Cape Green.

The Merck Foundation, created in 2017, is the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, which aims to improve people’s health and well-being and improve their lives through science and technology.
