Fisheries: World Bank offers 20 million euro package for construction of landings

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ministry of the Sea has at its disposal a financing package of 20 million euros (more than two million contos) to, among other projects, build landings in all fishing communities in the country.

The information was provided, this Tuesday, in Porto Novo, by the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, who informed that it is a package financed by the World Bank to provide fishing areas in Cape Verde with this equipment to support fishing activities.

This government official is visiting Santo Antão to contact operators, municipal authorities, inaugurate cold infrastructures and deliver equipment to fishermen.

In a meeting with fishing operators in the municipality of Porto Novo, the Minister of the Sea was confronted with the need to provide fishing areas with boat landings and fishermen’s houses.

Abraão Vicente, who is currently traveling to Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, says that his ministry is “available” to finance these projects, challenging the fishermen’s association to present a project to create a fishermen’s house in the city of Porto Novo.

During the meeting with the fishermen, the minister was also confronted with the need to build a fishing port in Santo Antão, to be located in the city of Porto Novo, to serve the entire island.

The official informed that the Government has already submitted the financing for the fishing port project to the European Investment Bank.
