
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The creation of the reserve’s first interpretation center in the town of Chã das Caldeiras was analyzed on Thursday by the mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo and the executive director of the Associação Projecto Vitó.
The Chã das Caldeiras interpretive center is, according to the mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Alberto Nunes, one of the projects of the city council and the Projecto Vitó Association, budgeted at 18 thousand dollars and aims to promote sustainable tourism in the region.
The center, which will be installed in the headquarters building of the Association of Tourist Guides of Chã das Caldeiras, will provide people who visit the Fogo Natural Park with enriching experiences to learn about the vast cultural and natural heritage of the World Biosphere Reserves on the island of Fogo, through information, exhibitions, educational activities and interactive experiences to better understand local history, geology and biodiversity.
The municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo will collaborate with the Associação Projecto Vitó in the implementation of this tourist/environmental project in the Fogo Natural Park.
In addition to the interpretive center and within the framework of the project to support the implementation of the Biosphere Reserve, carried out with funds allocated to Cape Verde by the United Nations, namely the Global Environment Fund (GEF) through the small grants program, the Associação Projecto Vitó built the “Fogo Reserva da Biosfera” sign installed in the Alto Santa Luzia park, close to the aerodrome, and the construction of a monument at the Xaguate roundabout and which gives access to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros with a figure of a sea turtle is nearing completion which represents another symbol of biodiversity.
