Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, defended Thursday, at the opening of the conference on the development of the island of Fogo, that private investment is fundamental for development, which is not done only with public investments.
For the prime minister, public investment opens doors for private investment, noting that this is valid for tourism, agriculture, fishing and other sectors of activity, underlining the need to transform municipalities and islands into attractive spaces for private investment, which means that all public investment that governments, central and local, are making must have a purpose that is to improve people’s quality of life and create economic attractiveness to create conditions for cities and villages to be more attractive to live, visit and invest.
In this chapter he pointed out some existing instruments, such as the differentiated investment merit project for islands whose GDP is below average, supplementary fiscal and financial incentives to attract investments and others.
The conference on the development of the island of Fogo was not in the sense of having another debate on development, but debating issues that are development priorities, noting that there is a Government program, a strategic plan for sustainable development and the municipalities have their programs.
